Multiple devices, one subscription: device and stream limits

How many devices can you watch on at once, what is the difference between registered devices and simultaneous streams, and how much internet does a family need?

Updated: 2 min read

In short

  • Providers typically limit two things: how many devices you can link to your account and how many streams can run at the same time.
  • When several people watch at home, the bandwidth needed adds up – two HD streams need roughly twice as much as one.
  • With a separate profile for each family member, everyone gets their own settings and recommendations.

Registered devices and simultaneous streams

Registered (connected) devices
The TVs, phones and tablets you have linked to your account. Their number may be limited depending on the package.
Simultaneous streams
How many devices can play at the same time. You might be able to register five devices but watch on only two at once.

The limits are set by licence agreements with rights holders and by the package conditions. You will find the exact numbers in the provider's package description and terms and conditions.

Profiles for family members

With profiles, everyone sees their own favourite channels, settings and recommendations, and a kids' profile shows only age-appropriate content. Details: profiles and parental controls.

If you have reached the limit

  1. Check who is watchingPlayback may be running in the background on a device. Stop any unnecessary stream.
  2. Review connected devicesCheck in your account which devices are linked to it.
  3. Consider changing your packageIf several people regularly watch at the same time, a larger package may be the solution.

Sharing outside the household

A subscription is usually for one household. Sharing outside the household may breach the terms and conditions; read more in our copyright article.
