Profiles and parental controls: TV for the whole family

How user profiles help family viewing, what parental controls can do, and how to set up your children's profile safely and in line with their age.

In short

  • With profiles, every family member sees their own favourites, settings and recommendations within one subscription.
  • Parental controls protect children with a PIN code, age limits and channel locks.
  • Match the settings to your child's age and review them from time to time.

Why are profiles useful?

Everyone in a household watches something different. Profiles keep each family member's favourite channels, settings and recommendations separate, so nobody has to search through everyone else's choices. Streamy offers profiles and parental controls so that every generation in the family can watch comfortably.

Parental control tools

Kids' profile
Shows content suitable for the age group from the start.
PIN code
The app asks for it to start age-restricted content or to leave the profile.
Age limit setting
Specify from which age category the system asks for the PIN.
Channel lock
Certain channels can be hidden or locked completely, if the service allows it.

Suggested settings by age

Suggestions based on the Hungarian age categories; the settings are the family's decision.
AgeSuggested setting
Under 6Kids' profile; without a PIN, only content suitable for all ages (category I)
6–11Kids' profile; up to content not recommended for under-sixes (category II)
12–15Own profile; up to content not recommended for under-twelves (category III) without a PIN
16–17Own profile; up to content not recommended for under-sixteens (category IV) without a PIN

What the categories mean in detail: age ratings and child protection.

A secure PIN

  • Don't use an easy-to-guess code (1234, 0000, a birth year).
  • Don't use your phone or bank card PIN.
  • Don't write it down near the TV.
  • If you suspect the children have guessed it, change it.

Frequently asked questions

How many profiles can I create?

This depends on the provider and the package; you can see the number of profiles in the app settings.

Do children see the adults' recommendations?

Not with separate profiles: each profile gets recommendations based on its own viewing history.
