IPTV on phones and tablets: TV always at hand

How to watch TV on an Android or iOS device: installation, mobile data or Wi‑Fi, casting to the TV, battery life and security – practical tips.

Updated: 2 min read

In short

  • IPTV apps are installed from Google Play and the App Store and work with the same account as on your TV.
  • On mobile data, watch your usage: an hour of HD TV can use several gigabytes.
  • If the app supports it, you can send what you start on your phone to the TV with Chromecast.

Installation

Always install from the official app store: Google Play on Android, the App Store on iPhone and iPad. Our illustrated guide covers both platforms:

Mobile data or Wi‑Fi?

Use Wi‑Fi at home and mobile data on the go. On mobile data, picture quality has a big effect on data usage:

Indicative values; actual usage depends on the service and the content.
Picture qualityApproximate data usage per hour
Low (SD)1–2 GB
HD (720p–1080p)2–4 GB
4K7–12 GB

If your mobile data allowance is limited, choose a lower quality in the app settings. Details: data usage in streaming.

Casting to the TV

If the app supports Chromecast, a broadcast started on your phone appears on the TV with one tap, and the phone works as a remote control. Streamy's player supports Chromecast.

Comfort and battery tips

  • Lowering screen brightness saves a lot of battery.
  • For longer viewing, plug in the charger, or use Wi‑Fi, which uses less energy than the mobile network.
  • With headphones you won't disturb others in public places.
  • Updating the app can bring bug fixes and better performance.

Security

  • Install apps only from official stores.
  • Use a screen lock so nobody can access your account if the device is lost.
  • If you lose the device, change your account password.

Frequently asked questions

Can I watch TV on mobile data?

Yes, but keep an eye on usage: in HD, several gigabytes per hour can be used. With a limited allowance, choose a lower quality.

Why is the picture black when I mirror my phone screen to the TV?

Copy protection often blocks full-screen mirroring of protected content. Use the app's own casting feature, such as Chromecast.

Can I be signed in on my phone and tablet at the same time?

Usually yes, but the number of simultaneous streams may be limited depending on your package. See: multiple devices, one subscription.
